M.Sc. Physics
In the M.Sc programme the focus is on gaining the advanced knowledge in the field
of Physics. The course curriculum is designed to introduce the students to more
complex concepts related to proton, photon and protein structure based mechanisms
discection to address burning issues with human health. Students are trained for a
career in advanced research in Physical, Chemical and Health sciences. The choice
based curriculum system (CBCS), provides an opportunity for the students to choose
from the prescribed courses comprising hard core, soft core, skill based and open
electives according to studetns learning interests to align with their targeted career
path.
Physics is an interdisciplinary course and understanding Physics is vital if one wants
to comprehend our contemporary technological society and the other Natural
Sciences. At its core, Physics is a combination of experimentation, observation,
mathematical and computational study of the phenomena.
In the First three semester, students will study mandatory hard core subjects which
includes Mathematical Physics, Electrodynamcis, Classical Mechanics, Quantum
Mechanics, Condesed Matter Physics, Optics, Spectroscopy, Biophysics, Nuclear
Physics and Solid State Physics,. The more specilized soft core subjects Accelerator
Physics, Protein Crystallography, Optoelectronics, X-ray Crystallography and
Computational Physics. In the fourth semester students will be envisaged highly
specialized courses research methodology, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Genetic
Engineering, Nanotechnology, etc., as part of the discipline specific open electives.
The most unique feature of M.Sc., Physics is the provision to perform full-time
research project in the fourth semester both at the in-house research centers or at
other reputed research centers outside.
- Candidates must have secured 45% (40% of SC/ST) in aggregate B.Sc., degree with PHYSICS as one of the optional subjects. Bachelor of Engineering and Technology (B.E. and B.Tech., graduates of ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS discipline with 45% (40% for SC/ST) or CGPA equvivalent aggregate and minimum 45% or equivalent CGPA in cognate subject from a recognized University.

- To develop an ability to become a specialist and in-depth understanding in various areas of Physics, such as, Condensed Matter Physics, Nuclear Physics, Electronics, Optics, Spectroscopy and Biophysics.
- Study diverse specialization subjects (Chemical Crystallography, Optoelectronics, Accelerator Physics, Computational Physics, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics and Protein crystallography) to equip students to learn the importance of multidisciplinary approach to succeed.
- To cultivate scientific approach and culture of research aptitude, International
level research projects will be allocated in order to provide the research
training. University has setup state-of-the-art research laboratory that is
equipped with advanced instrumentation for material/protein/drug
characterization, including Table Top Rigaku Powder X-ray diffractometer,
Ultra Violet – Visible and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometers.
- The study of Physics promotes understanding of the basic workings of nature.
It also extends that understanding beyond the realms of our everyday lives,
More importantly, knowledge of Physics is very essential for understanding
the role of Technology in Society as well as important policy issues.
- The study of Physics improves our quality of life by providing the basic understanding necessary for developing novel techniques and fabrication of automated instrumentation.
- To arrive at backed-up conclusions about physical phenomena and the fundamental principle of Mathematical Physics, Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Quantum Mechanics, Biophysics and Condensed Matter Physics.
- After completing the course, student is expected to solve the problems of Physical system and get insight of the solution. Display an understanding of the fundamentals of specilized subjects such as X-ray Crystallography, Bioinformatics and Biophysics.
- The critical thinking and understanding ability of the students is developed in multidiscilinary areas of Natural Scineces.
- Graduates with M.Sc. in Physics can find plenty of employment prospects in the public, private, and academic sectors, research organisations, and universities (Important Note: Internationally recognized faculties will provide career counseling at ACU according to the students’ lines of interest).
- Students can opt for Research as career Path as they are eligible to pursue doctoral studies in Physics at IITs, IISc, CSIR Labs, IISERs, top Universities in India and abroad (USA and Europe).
- Teaching Physics at Pre-University and B.Sc., level as Assistant Professors in the various Colleges / Universities.
- Students have the opportunities to join Government sector jobs. Major recruiting organizations of M.Sc. Physics students are: Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL), Institute of Plasma Research (IPR) and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
- For regular employment in Industries and Companies: M.Sc., Physics students have large scope in private sector including IT companies such as Infosys, Wipro, TCS, etc., and in Biotechnology (BT) industries including BioCon, Syngene, Aurigene Discoveries, Jubilant Therapeutics, etc.,
